Beaujolais Dinner
We are excited to explore and share with you the Beaujolais region wines.
Beaujolais is 34 miles long from north to south and 7 to 9 miles wide and home to nearly 4,000 vineyards which produce twelve officially-designated types of Beaujolais known as AOCs. They include some of the finest and priciest grand crus wines, including Fleurie and Cote de Brouilly.
Beaujolais Nouveau Day is marked in France on the third Thursday in November. The wine is released at 12:01 a.m., just weeks after the wine’s grapes have been harvested. It is celebrated in France as the first wine of the season. Beaujolais Nouveau owes its easy drinkability to a winemaking process called carbonic maceration, also known as whole-berry fermentation. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the grapes without extracting bitter tannins from the grape skins.
This evening, our friend and host Kevin will guide you through our beautiful selection of wines from the Beaujolais region in France.
‘My name is Kevin, I’m French and very much a wine enthusiast! Having left school aged 15 to study cooking, I strongly believe in the bond that exist between food and wines of all styles. I found my way into the Wine world aged 19 by studying and becoming a Sommelier.
I then travelled to UK where I spent a fair few years working in various Michelin Stars restaurants as well as Wine Bars. The pandemic pushed me to study again and in 2020 I travelled to France to gain a degree in Viticulture and Winemaking.’
